Canadian University Poker Championship a success
Gambling giant 888′s decision to replace Pokerstars as the sponsor for the University Poker Championship event in Montreal (see previous InfoPowa reports) has been vindicated by the major interest shown in the event, report the organisers.
Eighty-four competitors from 14 universities in Quebec province qualified for the tournament by accumulating points playing online poker at 888 over a twelve-week period preceding the competition.
The winner of the 2012 championship, Université du Québec en Outaouais student Maxime Gagné, won a prize package that included entrance to a 2012 WSOP event.
The 888 University Poker Championship (l’Omnium Universitaire 888) took place live at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal where students from 14 universities played individual and team events.
Student poker players had been battling it out for three months in online tournaments hosted online at 888Poker. The players earned points throughout the series and those with the highest amount of points, the top six per university, earned a spot at the Live Finals in Montreal.
